The Herald Scottish Family Business Awards, celebrating excellence in Scottish enterprise, were held last night at a black tie event at the Grand Hotel, Glasgow and A Hume took home not one, but two awards; Scottish Family Business of the Year in the small/medium category and Fastest Growing Family Business.
We faced stiff competition from industry leaders across a wide range of sectors and are absolutely delighted to be among the first recipients of the inaugural Herald Family Business Awards.
The judging panel included Tom Craig, chairman of Craig Corporate, Hugh Lightbody, chief officer at Business Gateway, Danny Bulloch, a Glasgow-based area director of business banking at RBS, plus The Herald’s business editor Ian McConnell and group business correspondent Mark Williamson.
Archie Hume attended the event and commented: ‘A Hume was founded in 1929, and there’s always the fear when you take an established family business in a new direction that it will all go horribly wrong.’
‘Our website has transformed our business, and enables us to take our exclusive menswear and ladieswear collections to an eager global market. But we always said we wouldn’t let standards slip, we wanted the same personalised service and uncompromising standards. The whole team have worked tirelessly to achieve these aims and this is an incredible endorsement of their efforts; these awards are a sign that we’re on the right track.’
Karen Hume, who couldn’t be at the awards ceremony was also delighted with the news, ‘We’re so proud of everyone at A Hume, thank you to all our customers and those who’ve supported us through the years.’
