Celebrating 75 Years of Crafting Excellence

In 1937, a small co-operative in Ballinasloe, in the heart of Galway on Ireland’s West Coast, produced the first shoes to carry the Dubarry name.

Dubarry celebrate 75 years of crafting excellence.

At the time the west of Ireland was a relatively impoverished place and the modest initiative was intended to promote local employment. However, in a move that betrays an early flair for marketing and a sparkle of ambition, the powers that be borrowed a little aristocratic glory by naming their fledgling business after famed French Countess Madame du Barry, courtesan, lover of Louis XV and Eighteenth Century It-girl. They felt her name conveyed the appropriate level of dash and daring to attract attention in their domestic market and they were not wrong.

From humble beginnings the Dubarry brand has grown to be recognised, loved and respected wherever there is a call for stylish, durable, footwear. No race day, game fair or county show is complete without a smattering of Galway boots. So trusted are these gore-tex lined, water repellent boots that they are considered essential country kit, even by Royalty.

The company’s technical expertise in producing high performance footwear is second to none. It’s quite a feat to craft boots that look good and will withstand the consistent abuse that country life heaps on them, and most companies would be content with this achievement. But not Dubarry, who have expanded to become a premium lifestyle brand with collections spanning, men’s and women’s wear, luxury leather luggage, sporting goods and accessories.

Dubarry enter the last quarter of their first century, as challengers in the country clothing market, taking their trademark appreciation for style and performance to new horizons and giving more established names a run for their money. Key pieces such as the Bracken Jacket, with its elegant funnel neck and hourglass tailoring exemplify their contemporary approach to traditional materials.

Much of their collection is equally at home in town, or country – versatile, durable and wearable, begging the eternal Dubarry question – ‘Where will you go in yours?’

All in all, we feel it’s only right to take a moment to celebrate Dubarry, who have through continuous innovation and design excellence earned their position as brand leaders. We can’t wait to see what comes next.
