Photoshoot #15 – Modelling is not for Sissies

By -

Here at A Hume we mark the turning points in the year, spring and autumn, by staging a large-scale outdoor photoshoot to capture our collections for the season ahead.

We’ve been doing this for a goodly number of years, enough to experience everything – and we mean everything – that the weather can throw at us:  rain, hail, snow, the tail end of hurricanes and sun. Some sun, but not so much – and definitely not much in recent memory. In fact it’s been pretty dismal.

Archie’s funny notion that being an outdoor country clothing specialist means we have to shoot outdoors in the country.

Shooting outdoors in Scotland is not for the faint-hearted and modelling in these conditions – not for sissies. Have you ever seen a model turn as blue as the cat people in Avatar? Male models doing shirt changes – their nipples engorged like conkers? Trust us – it’s not a pretty sight.

But Archie insists. He has some funny notion that being an outdoor country clothing specialist means we have to shoot our clothes outdoors in the country.

We’ve tried to sell him on a Caribbean shoot, or a Saharan Lawrence of Arabia theme – Dubarry boots are as good on camels as they are on horses – but he’s not buying it. He might come across as the happy-go-lucky type but actually he’s pretty hardcore and lately his tiresome commitment to authenticity – that has come at the expense of A Hume staffers being soaked right through to their knickers and laid up in bed with flu – has been wearing a bit thin.

The smiles were real. There was singing, dancing, mucking about and honest to god, proper flirting and having fun.

BUT NOT THIS TIME!

There was sun, sun, sun. Great big sweeping blue skies and actual warmth.

Archie – sunglasses, shorts and great big sweeping blue skies.

It was amazing. What a difference. No need for Dunkirk spirit or Ralph Fiennes like survival skills. The smiles were real. There was singing, dancing, mucking about and honest to god, proper flirting and having fun.

The Fishing Hut, Floors Castle. One of many photogenic locations we exploited in the sunshine.

We tore round the grounds of Floors Castle like an excitable pack, exploiting every photogenic location for all it’s worth. The Fishing Hut – click, click, click. A handy Land Rover prop – click, click, click. The Walled Garden still in full and glorious bloom had the camera shutter working faster than Chris Hoy’s legs in the velodrome.

Everyone loved it and it shows. The pictures are great. Best we’ve had in years.

So thank you to Zsofia, Monica, Siobhan, Stephanie, Matt, James, Luci, Hannah and all our staff who helped. We know you all worked your socks off but you made it look easy. Even in the sunshine modelling is not for sissies.
