With Archie Hume and Vanessa Murray
The Medici Family built the austere Fortezza de Basso in the 1530’s to fortify their dynasty and in any other country it would be a national monument but here in Florence it’s an exhibition centre.
Of course the Italian’s set the style bar at a dizzying height and the choice of venue for Pitti Uomo, the world’s premier showcase for men’s fashion, is merely an indication of the serious style inside.
Pitti Uomo is a trade show like no other, exhibitors appear by invitation only, then pay dearly through their immaculately groomed noses for the privilege. Models, buyers, fashion journalists and celebrities flock to the event. Everyone without exception is styled to within an inch of their life and it’s impossible to tell model from mortal. Photographers swarm the event like bees to honey and, as Archie and Vanessa would attest, it is like stepping into the pages of the glossiest magazine.
A melting pot of trends, luxury lifestyle, craftsmanship and superb tailoring, this is where Archie comes to find new brands, feast on ideas and drink up the drip, drip, drip of high fashion.
On Archie’s hotlist for 2013 are: Breuer, Manuel Vanni, Cheaney Shoes, and Andrew J Shirts
