Stylish and practical, Barts hats are our go-to brand for headwear. Every Barts beanie is hand-knitted using four needles to get a perfectly circular shape. We stock a fantastic range of colours and styles for men and women to suit every look, whether you are wrapping up warm for a day in the countryside, or looking for a fashionable option for commuting or everyday wear.
The story of Barts started in 1986 when Dutch-born Bart Koene started selling hand-sewn swim shorts along the beaches of St Tropez. A girl helping out Bart wrapped a piece of fabric around her head for sun protection and soon people started asking where they could buy this cool bandanna. Bart shifted his business to headgear and in 1992 the Barts brand was born with a collection of colourful bandanas. Shortly after, came the launch of three hand-knitted beanie hats. These beanies were a huge success and hand-knitting, a dying craft, has since become the trademark of many of Barts hat collections.
Today, Barts is an Amsterdam based outdoor accessory brand specialising in headgear and clothing accessories. Their team of talented designers have the creative freedom to develop fresh ideas and have created over 2,500 unique designs since the business began. Barts are able to use multiple types of yarn, unlimited colour combinations, and some complicated hand-crafted techniques in a single product. To get their hand-knitted beanies perfectly round and seamless, they use four needles and a technique known as circular knitting, ensuring all beanies have a quality look and feel. Barts goes by the ethos that ‘life starts outside’, and whether you are high up in the hills or out and about in the city, their hats will keep you warm.
Sustainability, animal welfare and responsible manufacturing are all important to the Barts brand. Barts has long-term relationships with its suppliers, some of whom have worked with the brand for over 20 years. Barts continually aims to use more sustainable materials to make their products and is a 100% fur-free brand; recognised as a Fur Free Retailer member in 2019. The brand may be over 25 years old, but Barts moves with the times and takes its environmental impact seriously.
