The Humes Outfitters
We are so lucky at Humes Outfitters to have a great team of friendly, passionate and talented individuals, who put their all into their work. We enjoy working together, quite often having a good time as we do, with whatsapp groups for recipe sharing, our annual Bake Off sweepstake, various socials throughout the year and of course a common love for dogs (not sure if this is obvious). We really are a family.
Meet The Team
David Nuttall
David Nuttall became the proud new owner of Humes Outfitters in January 2020. He has had a long-established relationship with Humes as the Managing Director of world-renowned Scottish knitwear manufacturer, William Lockie and Company in Hawick. David has a huge passion for quality brands, and his knowledge of manufacturing is exceptional.
A keen horseman David enjoys spending time out on his trusty steed Rory, attending the local riding festivals and is partial to a nice countryside walk with his wife Gael and their two dogs Tala and Ziggy.
Rachel Thomson
Rachel Thomson joined Humes in 2020 as Managing Director. After 7 years at William Lockie Rachel developed a great interest in marketing and branding and has loved every second of applying these skills at Humes and is in particular extremely proud of new the triannual mail order catalogue and recent rebrand project.
A true country gal, after studying at Edinburgh University for 4 years Rachel decided to head back to the Scottish Borders. She loves nothing more than being out in the middle of nowhere walking with her dogs Dexter and Amble.
Fraser Thomson
Fraser Thomson joined Humes Outfitters in August 2020, taking on the role of operations and stock manager and in a short space of time has revolutionised our processes and stock management. He is now looking forward to a new challenge as Head of Finance & Operations.
A keen rugby player, Fraser recently hung up his boots after a successful career with Melrose Rugby Club and Glasgow Warriors.
Anna Thomson
Anna joined Humes in June 2017 as Senior Ladieswear Sales Assistant. Anna has an abundance of experience having worked for a number of years in customer-focused roles. She has a great eye for fashion and prides herself on her excellent customer service and care. In 2021 we were delighted when Anna accepted the role of Head of Retail across both our stores in Kelso.
Anna is passionate about horses and the Scottish Borders countryside and loves combining the two.
Erin Burton
Erin joined Humes in August 2015 as part of the online team and is responsible for customer service and order processing. She ensures all customer queries are dealt with as efficiently as possible and that orders are dispatched as promised.
Erin enjoys travelling, socialising with friends and going to the gym.
Chris Whitlock
Chris has been with Humes Outfitters since March 2009 and worked in our Menswear department for 12 years. With his knowledge of stock, our systems and processes Chris made the move to the warehouse managing stock for both shops and our online fulfilment.
Chris enjoys walking his dog Murphy and loves dining out and trying out new culinary delights.
Herbie Wharton
Herbie joined Humes in September 2013 as a sales adviser. She has worked in customer service roles both within the finance industry and retail. As a passionate and experienced retail sales adviser she looks forward to welcoming you in-store.
Herbie loves keeping fit and experimenting in the kitchen with healthy produce and new recipe ideas.
Judy Potts
Judy joined Humes Outfitters in May 2015 as our Marketing Manager with over 23 years experience in customer service and has since moved into a role as our E-Commerce Manager, keeping our website fresh and up to date.
A local farmers wife, Judy is used to early starts and can often be found in an exercise class before work. Out of office hours she enjoys socialising and spending time with her family and four legged friends
Lesley McCrindle
Lesley, who has been with Humes since Autumn 2016, used to work in retail banking and comes with a wealth of experience. She has a keen interest in ladies fashion and a great eye for detail, we always have outfit envy when Lesley comes into work.
In her spare time Lesley enjoys showing her Connemara ponies, country pursuits and spending time with her family.
Lorraine Tait
Lorraine joined Humes Outfitters in October 2012 and has over 20 years experience working in the retail sector in Kelso. She is very knowledgeable about the fishing and shooting in the area, of which many tourists come to visit us specifically for.
Lorraine always has a smiling face for our customers walking in the door.
Julie Lowrie
Julie joined the Humes team in May 2014, and has a wealth of customer service experience, having worked in some of Kelso’s other retail businesses. Starting her career with us in our technical wear department Julie has a great knowledge of the perfect products required for a day in the country.
Julie is a keen horse rider and has her three of her own horses that keep her very busy. Julie also takes part in eventing and other various country pursuits.
Mo Cuthbert
A very cherished member of the team, Mo, as she is fondly known, is our expert tailoress, carrying out all clothing alterations on the premises. Along with the alterations she keeps all samples and stock in tip top shape for our photoshoots.
Mo has two Border Collie dogs and has a real passion for dog agility.
Dexter
Dexter joined the online office team in 2020 and is best friends with whoever is currently eating their lunch. His deep bark lets everyone know when courier has arrived (so we never miss it) and there is always a moment of fear when no one can find him...he is probably stealing that evening's dinner out of Chris's bag.
In his free time Dexter enjoys walks, sniffing and playing in the river.
Ruth Thorburn
Ruth joined our team in March 2019 after a number of customer facing roles working in weddings, events & hospitality, and more recently retail banking. Customer service has always been one of her passions.
Ruth is a lover of the countryside and can be found out walking with her family and two dogs or going for an early morning run before work.
Iain Dickson
Iain joined Humes team in the autumn of 2020 in our Menswear Store, 46 The Square and since then his bright personality has been welcoming customers through the door. In the last year, Iain has taken on our formalwear and kilt hire services.
Iain loves the ruggedness of Northumberland and the softness of the arable Borders, with the most amazing coast. He loves the history of the area in particular the local festivals.
Mairi Cameron
Mairi came to Humes in April of 2021 after 3 years working at William Lockie. In her time there she built up a great knowledge of international shipping and is now assisting with copy writing and social media.
Mairi is happiest when spending time with her family, especially her two little nieces and discovering new walks with her Jackshund Kobe.
Julie Gallagher
Julie joined Humes Outfitters in May 2021 after a dedicated career in retail as our ladies shop manager. Julie is very enthusiastic and is never one to sit still as there is always stocktaking to do!
Julie enjoys foraging for brambles to make bramble and almond frangipane tarts and enjoys a festive foliage forage to create winter garlands inspired by country walks with her Miniature Dachsund Cora.
Katie Moore
Katie joined Humes in May of 2021 after starting her career in hospitality, working at a luxury spa. Her passion has always been country pursuits (and clothing) and we were delighted when Katie chose to join us as part of the outbound customer service team.
In her spare time Katie enjoys spending time with her three dogs, helping out with her friend's horses, cooking and baking (something which delighted her fellow colleagues when she appeared with a tin full of brownies on her first day).
Zosia Skutecki
Zosia joined Humes in March 2022, working in both shops on Saturdays after a busy week at school. She thoroughly enjoys learning all about the country brands and products.
She enjoys spending her time with family and friends, being outside with her dogs and horse riding as much as she possibly can.
Amble
Amble is the Humes Outfitters puppy, and has been here since she was 12 weeks old. She is very cute, but extremely mischievous with a big personality. She spends her time basking in the sun through the office windows and between both stores.
